Where Election 2020 is headed The Incumbent's approval ratings have remained remarkably steady since 2016. Around 40% of Americans strongly identify with him and more than 60 million will vote for him in November 2020. The root of his appeal is deep dissatisfaction with steady economic decline in regions of the USA, intertwined with deep-seated racial animosity embedded in US history. Part of his identity-appeal lies in demonstrating implacable opposition to the Democratic party, portrayed as corrupt and - important for keeping Evangelicals on-side - anti-Christian. This has created dualistic dynamic - direct engagement with him feeds his base's sense…

Bringing Ragnarok Metaphysics in Brief

I actually wrote out this thread on Twitter earlier today, and decided to post it here as well with a few tweaks and notes, because it sums up something I've been trying to decide how to write simply for weeks now. So here it is - a very brief overview of the metaphysic I'm using to power the world of Bringing Ragnarok: Big Bang = Ymir mixed Muspellheim, Jotunheim, Niflheim. M is where energy (and thereby matter) comes from.J is where quantum laws originate.N is the source of gravity. Forces don't reconcile in our Universe because they are from Outside…
A quick announcement:   Bringing Ragnarok: Book Three is live on Amazon!   Now, the writing of Book Four can begin, with the goal being to launch in late December. Book Three of the Saga of Six Friends ushers them into the Second Season of Fimbulwinter, where the battles will become harsher and more of the deeper nature of reality is revealed. Length-wise, it is actually a bit longer than Book Two, despite Amazon's odd print-length prediction metric. You may notice that it is also priced at $2.99 USD. For the past year, I have had the first two Books…

Simple Platform for Fixing the USA

So let me preface this essay and strategy thinkpiece with a bit of a (long) disclaimer. I am not a Democrat. I am an American citizen, but I prefer to identify as a Cascadian of Anglo-Saxon descent, because heritage and local biome matter far more than a bit of dyed cloth ever could. It is my firm belief that the United States should and most likely will break up (in some form) in my lifetime, because its governing architecture has been captured by a privileged elite that has turned its laws and institutions against its people, which is simply not…
Quick update time! Bringing Ragnarok: Book Three is just about done. Part 3 will be fully drafted by end of this week, and I'll do the intensive rewrite and line edits over the next couple weeks. Then I get to make the final edits to the full manuscript (usually 1-2 weeks) and it'll be ready to publish on Kindle! And after that... Book Four! Goal: End of December release. May sound like an aggressive timeline, but I wrote Book Two between August and mid-October 2018, and had edits all done six weeks later. So far, the reader ratings i'm receiving…

Bringing Ragnarok Dev Diary 16

Just wanted to post a quick update here before I get to my day's editing. By the end of the week, Bringing Ragnarok, Book Three (The Second Fimbulwinter) will be 75% complete, with only the third Part left to write. Manuscript stands at just over 100,000 words, and I'm aiming to bring it in at right around 145,000 words. So longer than Book One, but a bit shorter than Book Two. And as I mentioned in a previous update, this Book's position in the metastructure lets me tone down the combat a bit, and focus more on lore and understanding…

PrefaceAlright, so I know this will sound completely insane to anyone in the know from the get-go, but here goes anyway. I've developed a hybrid theoretical framework I believe represents a tremendous step forward with respect to scientific understanding how the human world functions. You are right to wonder why this matters, and also why I characterize this development as insane. I'll answer both, but you'll have to bear with me a bit, because the answer to both is (as with most things in this world) linked in complex ways. I'll do my level best to be as succinct as…
I am more than a bit obsessed with Swedish melodic death metal. This is actually a relatively new development in my life, though not entirely unforeseen, I suppose. I’m autistic, and hypersensitive to sound. The downside to this: One form of personal torment for me is sunny days, where the lawnmowers and airplanes (we live near an “Airpark”) are out and about, buzzing endlessly and without obvious productive purpose. The more fortunate flip side of this hypersensitivity is that I have always gained extreme enjoyment from listening to music. In fact, I actually suspect autism is somehow related to synesthesia, because I’m…

Trigeminal Neuralgia Sucks

I am sitting in the corridor outside the surgery waiting room, waiting for a team to drill into my spouse's skull and intentionally damage a nerve. So, if this is a bit of a scattered, random post - eh, no apologies. Really, I'm just killing time until hunger sets in long enough to drive me to the cafe, which will kill some more time, before it is back to the waiting room to wait/kill time some more. The odd thing is that I actually hate this less than i thought I would. The OHSU staff so far have been considerate…
